K. Nimmaiah

Mr. K. Nimmaiah, the visionary Founder and Executive Director of PEACE (People’s Action for Creative Education), hails from Choller village in the Nalgonda District. A graduate in Commerce, as well as Education, with an additional Diploma in Social Leadership, Nimmaiah showed a profound inclination towards social welfare and community development right from his college days. His formative years deeply influenced his commitment to addressing rural poverty, injustice, and social inequalities.

Inspiration and Initial Years

Paulo Freire’s

Influenced significantly by Paulo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed,” Nimmaiah strongly believed that education could catalyze social transformation, especially for marginalized communities such as Dalits. Driven by this vision, he became actively involved in adult education initiatives aimed at raising awareness, empowering communities, and fostering socio-economic change.

His initial career phase was enriched by experiences with a prominent development organization, where he served as a cultural and training coordinator. During this period, he collaborated closely with renowned social workers like Mr. Badal Sarkar, utilizing street theatre and cultural mediums to address critical societal issues such as dowry, child marriage, caste exploitation, and child labour. This experience underscored his belief in the transformative power of community engagement and education

Establishment of PEACE

Established in 1986

PEACE was officially established on 13th May 1986, born from Nimmaiah’s unwavering commitment to social development. Despite initial financial hardships, his resolve never wavered. The organization survived its early days through his personal savings and small-scale agricultural efforts, demonstrating his steadfast dedication to the cause. PEACE was founded with three clear objectives:

    • To uphold Child Rights
    • Empowerment of Rural Women through Thrift & Credit
    • To undertake NRM Natural Resource Management

Under Nimmaiah’s dynamic leadership, PEACE successfully garnered significant support from international and national donor agencies including TDH Germany, CRY, AEI Luxemburg, and CWS, among others. Through sustained community-centric efforts, PEACE achieved milestones such as the complete eradication of child labour in its operational regions, substantial improvements in rural livelihoods, and significant advances in health awareness and education.

The organization’s interventions in natural resource management, organic agriculture, watershed development, and Panchayat Raj empowerment have positively transformed countless lives. Thousands of rural families, farmers, women, children, and the physically challenged have benefited immensely from PEACE’s comprehensive development programs.
